ASTM is the abbreviation of American Society for Testing and Materials. Founded in 1898, ASTM is one of the American oldest and largest nonprofit standard academic communities, predating other standards organizations such as DIN (1917), ANSI (1918) and AFNOR (1926). After a century of development, there are 33,669 (individual and group) members, of whom there are 22,396 main committee members holding the post of technical experts in their committees. ASTM technical committee totally has 2004 technical sub-committees. There are 105,817 units participated in the development work of ASTM standards.

About ASME ASME is the short form of American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Established in 1880, it has many branches around the world and it is an authoritative and influential international academic organization. ASME standard is widely used in developing science and technology of mechanical engineering and related fields, encouraging basic research, promoting academic exchanges and developing cooperation with other engineering associations. ASME is also aimed to carry out standardization activities and to develop mechanical specifications and standards. It owns 125,000 members. It manages the world's largest technical publishing department, hosts 30 technical conferences and 200 professional development courses every year, and develops many ASME standards.
